The Boost News
New York state lawmakers approved a sixth budget extender Thurs., April 17, before heading back to their districts for the holiday weekend. Reports say progress has been made, but, in the meantime, NYC Fair, an advocacy group comprised of family members of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and concerned others, reminds us that it’s an opportunity to continue advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Here are some of its suggestions:
- Visit the New York Disability Adovcates (NYDA) website to access various one-click emails you can send to your state and federal legislators. The main NYDA link features the 7.8% Targeted Inflationary Increase to raise Medicaid rates for non-profit proivers.
- If you scroll to the bottom there is an additional link to the CP State website where there are links to one-clicks for Early Intervention, OMIG reforms and the federal Guardians of Medicaid campaign.
- Contact your legislators and urge them to prioritize disability services in the final budget. Every call, email, and meeting makes a difference.
